Sunflower

I just had to say (without hope or agenda):

I didn’t mean to do it, when I tripped and fell for you.

And now I don’t know what to do with this feeling I’ve slipped into.

I just know that I can’t stop myself from thinking of you

And all the little things you do.

You’ve stolen all the lyrics to all my favorite love songs.

Like singing them about anyone else can’t help but be wrong.

I can’t help hearing the words you’d say, or seeing the face you’d make.

Or when I think I see you, doing a double take.

I can’t ask for the music back, since I doubt you realize it’s with you.

So I guess I’ll have to wait until my heart knows what to do.

Till then I’ll miss the music, the way that I miss you.

Because I know I can’t make myself a world apart from you.

I promise to keep my distance, care about you from afar,

But I had to tell you, you’re amazing, just the way you are.

  1. this is so lame. isyw has gone straight downhill since last year’s seniors graduated. or maybe the freshman this year are just all Shakers. leave the poetry for english class. not everyone wants to read a long, drawn-out love confession from an anonymous poet. typical wellesley, trying to either one-up their fellow students by making isyw a poetry contest or (even worse) confess their love to a fellow student while trying to one-up the very same person they are trying to double up with

    • that dig at Shakers aside, sometimes people want to write love poems. are you really harshing on someone’s feelings right now because they didn’t write it tersely enough for you? this is an open forum for love notes. deal.
